Helen Skelton has shared her and her Morning Live co-star are “just friends”. Rumours began circulating last year that Helen was romantically linked to Gethin Jones, but the 42-year-old has now shut down any speculation. In a recent interview with The Mirror, Helen said the pair are work colleagues and friends.
Helen split from rugby player Richie Myler in 2022 and rumours have circulated about a potential romance with Gethin. They were pictured looking cosy at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards last year, reports The Mirror.
She has now shut down reports of a romance brewing. When asked if they had been enjoying more romantic dates, Helen, who recently moved back to her native Cumbria to live on her parents’ dairy farm, said: “No. Well, he’s in Manchester working away, so yeah, no, all good.”
She insisted that they are nothing more than “work friends” and always have been.
She said: “We just work together, we are not together. No, no, no. We are just work friends. They printed pictures of us at work and that we’re together because we are at work together.”
Gethin and Helen have been friends for years and colleagues for just as long.
Last year, they took part in Gethin and Helen’s Wheely Big Challenge – a 24-hour roller-skating challenge in aid of Comic Relief, which they worried might wreck their friendship. Gethin said: “What’s different this time is that we have each other. We’re best friends. We’re very honest with one another.”
During an appearance on Morning Live, Gethin also publicly commented on his and Helen’s reported romance. The presenter was interviewing Christine McGuinness about her Situationships podcast.
When author Sophie Gravia and Christine discussed their own relationships and romances, one remarked about being single for a long time, with Gethin quickly stepping in to say ‘”join the club”, seemingly confirming his single status.
BBC Morning Live presenter and Countryfile host Helen recently gave up her Sunday morning BBC Radio 5 Live show to concentrate on motherhood, but hasn’t ruled out marrying again or having another child.
She said: “It’s not something I’ve thought about really. I don’t know – I just take each day as it comes. I know that’s boring but…”
But as a busy mum of three, juggling motherhood, career and the farm, she laughed off reports she was embroiled in a new romance, and going on dates, as she said: “Again, I just take each day as it comes, nothing more to say on that.”
