Stacey Solomon Reveals Her 3 ‘Dramatic’ Pregnancy Symptoms with Joe Swash’s Children

Stacey Solomon, a devoted mother of five, has navigated a number of challenges during her pregnancies, including dental issues.

Sort Your Life Out star Stacey Solomon is a devoted mother to her five children — Zachary, Leighton, Rex, Rose, and Belle — whom she affectionately calls her “pickles.”

Since first stepping into the spotlight on The X Factor and through to her latest show, Stacey & Joe, the 36-year-old has been refreshingly open about her experiences with motherhood, sharing the highs and lows both as a single mother and after marrying her husband, Joe Swash.

Among some of the difficulties she has shared, Stacey has also revealed that she saw some incredibly bizarre symptoms across her pregnancies.

Her teeth turned ‘black and yellow’

On a November 2020 episode of Loose Women, Stacey Solomon revealed how much she struggled with her teeth before getting veneers. When fellow panellist Janet Street-Porter asked what was underneath them, Stacey candidly replied: “Nothing!”

She explained: “When I got pregnant with Leighton, the front teeth went all black and yellow, and I lost a lot of the back ones, so I had plates put over the top. Then they felt really bulbous, and I was so sensitive that I couldn’t even breathe in without thinking, ‘Ugh! It really hurts!’”

Pregnancy can bring a range of changes to oral health. According to the NHS, hormonal shifts during pregnancy can make gums more prone to plaque, inflammation, or bleeding, while oral hygiene routines may also be disrupted. The NHS offers free dental care during pregnancy and for the first year after your baby is born, so it’s important to schedule regular check-ups.

A hairy baby bump

In 2019, Stacey Solomon shared a candid snap of her growing baby bump on Instagram, revealing the appearance of some dark hair.

In the caption, she joked: “I think I’m pregnant with a Furby, I need to know… Did anyone else’s belly just suddenly become covered in fur?”

Fans were quick to reassure her in the comments, explaining that developing hair on the stomach during pregnancy is completely normal.

According to the NHS, this condition, known as hirsutism, is often linked to changes in androgen levels. While it is most commonly associated with PCOS, it can also appear in many pregnant women as a natural part of hormonal changes.

She didn’t know for three months

Stacey Solomon revealed that during her most recent pregnancy, she didn’t realise she was expecting until three months in — only sharing the news with her fans after eight months.

The Stacey & Joe star explained that she had been experiencing irregular periods while still breastfeeding her daughter Rose, so missing a few cycles at the start of the pregnancy didn’t immediately raise any alarms.

During a Q&A on Instagram, the 36-year-old described how she only realised she was pregnant so far along. “We really wanted to keep it to ourselves for that beginning bit, but we missed the beginning bit, if that makes sense,” she said. “We didn’t have to keep it a secret for eight months because we didn’t know for eight months.”

Reflecting on their hectic family life at the time, Stacey added: “My periods were irregular from breastfeeding, we were planning a wedding, then getting married, and life was just so busy — it honestly didn’t even register.”

According to the NHS, the lactational amenorrhea method — where breastfeeding can delay ovulation for up to six months — is sometimes used as a natural form of family planning. However, it is not a reliable contraceptive, which may explain Stacey’s surprise at discovering her pregnancy.
