Bradley Walsh Sparks Host Speculation With Surprise Backstage Visit on Strictly

Bradley Walsh has fueled speculation about becoming the next host of Strictly Come Dancing after making a surprise visit to the show’s Elstree Studios set on Friday.

The 65-year-old stopped by the BBC production during a break from filming The Chase, which is recorded at a nearby studio, sparking widespread discussion about his potential to succeed departing presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

His unexpected appearance comes amid reports that Walsh is in advanced talks to take over hosting duties for the flagship Saturday night programme.

During the visit, he met with various members of the production team, a move industry insiders have interpreted as a key development in the search for new hosts for the show from 2026.

During his visit, Bradley Walsh spent time with the Strictly Come Dancing backstage team, including chief dressmaker Theresa Hewlett, who shared the moment on social media platform X.

Ms Hewlett posted a photo of herself with Walsh and colleagues, captioning it: “We had a visitor in BBC’s Strictly yesterday. The Chase is filmed next door, and he popped in to say hi. What a lovely man Bradley Walsh is!”

The image quickly circulated online, generating enthusiastic reactions from viewers.

One fan commented, “Oh yes, he’s the new presenter for sure!”

Another added, “He’d be great on Strictly,” while a third remarked, “Now that’s how rumours start!”

The warm reception Walsh received from production staff was echoed by several crew members, who described him as “lovely” during his impromptu visit.

According to sources familiar with the situation, his studio appearance has sparked considerable discussion among television insiders.

“Bradley’s appearance in the studio has certainly set tongues wagging,” one source said. “Bosses are keen for Bradley to take over. He is a real pro and has brilliant experience hosting live shows.”

The source also highlighted the BBC’s desire for stability, adding: “Producers need a safe pair of hands to steady the ship amid so much change. Of course, he’d have a female co-host alongside him as part of a duo.”

They continued: “Bradley is popular with both old and young audiences and would bring humour along with some classic showbiz charm.”

The timing of Walsh’s visit has been particularly noted given recent reports of advanced discussions about the presenting role.

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced their decision to leave Strictly in October via an emotional video message shared on social media, bringing an end to their presenting partnership that began in 2014.

The duo, who have become synonymous with the show, said: “We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream. We were always going to leave together, and now feels like the right time.”

They expressed gratitude to the production team, adding: “We will enjoy the rest of this amazing series and just want to say an enormous thank you to the BBC and to every single person who works on the show.”

Their final appearance will be the pre-recorded Christmas special, scheduled to air on Christmas Day.

Reports suggest that Bradley Walsh is in advanced talks to co-present the programme alongside The One Show’s Alex Jones, with the duo expected to take over hosting duties from 2026.

A television insider noted that both Walsh and Jones are frontrunners to succeed Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, having been on the BBC’s radar for some time.

The source highlighted their complementary strengths: “Bradley and Alex are both seen as accomplished broadcasters. He brings the humour, while Alex is the calm presence who knows how to handle live situations after 15 years co-hosting The One Show.”

Jones, 48, previously competed on Strictly in 2011, reaching the semi-finals with professional partner James Jordan.

The insider added that discussions are “moving in a really positive direction,” but cautioned that “nothing is set in stone yet.”
