The couple renovated their home on Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau.

Dick and Angel Strawbridge have completely transformed their 19th-century French castle, Château de la Motte Husson, since moving there in 2015, documenting every step of the journey on their popular Channel 4 series Escape to the Château.

Beyond becoming their stunning family home and a sought-after wedding venue, the château now offers glamping stays, guided tours, and a variety of unique experiences for fans eager to see the property in person.

Here’s a full guide to what you can expect when visiting Château de la Motte Husson—and, most importantly, what it costs to stay there.

How much does it cost to stay at the Escape to the Château estate?

Although the château is primarily known as a wedding venue—with packages ranging from £19,000 to £38,000—there are additional ways to experience the property. Overnight stays inside the château typically cost between £5,000 and £6,000, though prices and availability vary, and the most up-to-date details are listed on their official website.

For visitors looking for a more affordable option, the surrounding grounds now feature luxurious glamping experiences. Dick and Angel have introduced geodesic domes—billed as “château under the stars”—priced at £350 per night. Guests can choose between a floating dome or a land-based dome, each accommodating up to four adults and two children.

What’s included with the château domes?

Both the floating and land domes offer a range of comforts, including a private shower and bathroom block nearby, a wood-burning stove, and an outdoor kitchen equipped with a gas hob, fridge, coffee machine, and fully stocked bar. Each dome also has its own barbecue area and seating space.

A French breakfast for up to six people is delivered directly to your kitchen, and upon arrival, guests receive a welcome basket filled with local treats. Dome stays also include use of the château’s fishing gear, bicycles, and access to the on-site games room.

How much do weddings cost at Escape to the Château?

According to reports from The Sun, wedding packages at the château range from £19,000 to £38,000, depending on the type of package selected and the number of guests attending.

The elegant Art Deco–inspired Orangery can seat up to 80 guests for a traditional wedding breakfast. For those planning a smaller celebration—such as the intimate weddings that became more common after the coronavirus lockdown—the salle à manger offers seating for up to twelve guests for a bespoke tasting menu.

Dick and Angel first established the château as a wedding venue after marrying there themselves in November 2015, a milestone featured in the first season of their Channel 4 series.

Where is Escape to the Château located?

Château de la Motte Husson sits in the Pays de la Loire region of France, near the city of Nantes. Dick and Angel purchased the 45-room château—complete with 78 windows, 12 acres of land, and its own moat—for just £280,000 in 2015.

Having been unoccupied for four decades and lacking electricity, heating, and running water, the property has been undergoing a remarkable renovation documented throughout the show.

Can you tour the Escape to the Château estate?

Yes! Dick and Angel offer a day tour of the château for £230. The experience includes transportation to and from Laval, a gourmet lunch with wine, and a guided walk through the grounds, followed by afternoon tea.

Guests are taken from the sous-sol (basement) through five floors up to the grenier (attic), while Dick and Angel share stories about how they found the château, their life in France, and behind-the-scenes insights into creating the television series.
