Amanda Owen receives outpouring of support after admitting to ‘tough day’ in farming update

Fans have shown an outpouring of support for Amanda Owen, the star of Our Yorkshire Farm, after she shared a series of photos highlighting a new challenge affecting her livestock at Ravenseat.

The remote 2,000-acre sheep farm in the Yorkshire Dales is largely managed by Amanda and her nine children following her separation from husband Clive Owen in 2022.

In her latest post, Amanda shared a slideshow of fourteen images and short videos capturing life on the farm, blending heartwarming moments with her children alongside updates about one of the family’s prized cows, Ciara.

The caption read: “What a lousy day it has been!”

“Mostly it’s been the weather, but also in those annoying, itchy ways,” Amanda explained.

“Our lovely cow, Ciara, who we hand-reared because her mother Margaret wasn’t very maternal or milky—she was quite the old-timer—was suffering from an itch she couldn’t reach.”

Ms Owen added: “As we were all dealing with this communal itch this morning, I couldn’t help but think about what an absolutely wonderful cow she is.

“She isn’t much for hanging out with the other cows—she prefers to be seen rather than blending in with the herd.”

“Despite her impressive size, she’s the most gentle, sweet-natured creature you could ever set eyes on (poop emoji),” Amanda shared.

“Having grown out of her old habit of eating clothes, she’s now perfectly content to hang around people whenever she can.”

Fans quickly poured into the Yorkshire shepherdess’ comments with messages of support.

“One viewer wrote: ‘This made me laugh. Can’t wait to see you all back on TV. It’s my favourite programme to watch!’” Another added: “‘Thanks for sharing—made me smile.’”

Many fans also praised Amanda Owen for her parenting and the idyllic lifestyle she provides for her children.

“One commented: ‘What a lovely childhood they have,’” while another added: “‘What an amazing life the children lead.’”

Longtime followers also shared fond memories of Ciara’s early days.

“One wrote: ‘Awww, how lovely to look back and see them all so little again.’ Another added: ‘Happy memories of her as a calf. She’s grown into such a Bonny Cow. Love the photos of the girls bottle-feeding Ciara.’”

This isn’t the first time Ms Owen has shared glimpses into farm life; she often posts candid updates for her supporters.

Last week, fans were surprised when she shared photos of her 13-year-old son Sydney, with many noting how much he has grown since the family first appeared on TV.

Alongside these wholesome glimpses, the 51-year-old has also opened up about the more difficult moments of farm and family life. In October, she announced the passing of the family’s beloved dog Chalky, simply writing: “Mourning #Chalky.”

In the same month, the mother of nine shared photos of her children helping out on the farm, noting that life comes with its challenges. “Life is busy,” she wrote.

“Obstacles are thrown in your path, the road is never smooth. We tackle everything head-on—or a*** first in the case of the sheep at the moment. We always do our best and turn our hand to anything. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

“Nowadays, we have to be stronger than ever, and mental strength—mindset—is the key driver of confidence and resilience.”

Ms Owen frequently reflects on the chaos of family life, including the “moments of absolute crappiness” that come with it. She and Clive Owen have long emphasised the importance of instilling resilience and a strong work ethic in their children.

Both have previously spoken about the pressures that fame placed on their marriage. Clive admitted that his anger and desire to “keep Amanda to himself” ultimately “drove her away.”

Despite their separation, the couple continue to work together on their new show, Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids.

While they remain separated but not legally divorced, they co-parent their nine children and share responsibility for the farm. Clive explained that their lives are so “intertwined” that a full separation would be impossible, with their ongoing collaboration forming the foundation of the new series.
