Countryfile presenter Hamza Yassin was visibly emotional in the latest episode of the BBC show as he made history.
The wildlife cameraman and presenter travelled to the Scottish Highlands in Sunday’s edition, taking part in a mission to release wildcats back into their natural habitat.
Accompanied by a conservation team, Hamza helped reintroduce one of Britain’s rarest animals to the wild. He described the experience as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” adding, “To actually be given the privilege of releasing three wildcats into the wild is something really special.”

Estelle Morgan, who led the conservation team, told Hamza Yassin, “You know you’re the first person who isn’t project staff to release a wildcat?”
“Really? That’s an honour, that is an honour indeed,” Hamza replied, clearly moved.
During the release, he placed food near the wildcats’ enclosure to encourage them to venture out. After the animals successfully emerged, he remarked, “How cool was that? These guys are absolutely phenomenal. I can see why they’re truly wildcats.”

Hamza Yassin learned that he would be the first person outside the project staff to release a wildcat.
“They don’t want us anywhere near them,” he explained. “They’ve got their ears pinned back and are hunkered down just out of the way. They are majestic, beautiful, and completely wild. All we have to do now is vacate the area and hopefully see them on the camera traps, coming out and enjoying their own food.”
Later in the episode, Hamza reviewed the camera footage, with a team member confirming that one of the wildcats had indeed left the enclosure.

The wildlife enthusiast was clearly moved to witness such a rare moment.
Later in the episode, Hamza Yassin shared some exciting news with viewers: just two hours after one of the wildcats, Morangie, ventured out, the other two, Stovie and Moth, also took their first steps into their new wild home. “Good luck, guys,” he said. “I’ve been lucky enough to witness incredible wildlife over the years, but seeing those wildcats this morning was something truly special. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment.”
Elsewhere in the show, Countryfile explored its archives, revisiting past conservation efforts and the people who have worked to restore Britain’s wildlife.
