Isla Fisher Opens Up About ‘Tough’ Fresh Start, Reveals Tears While Moving Into New London Home After Split from Sacha Baron Cohen

Isla Fisher has been showing strength throughout her very public divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen after 14 years of marriage.

Now, the 49-year-old actress has opened up about how rebuilding her life from the ground up has been “tough,” revealing that she even “cried” while moving furniture into her new London home.

She explained, “Trying to create a new life from a grassroots level, at least emotionally, has been challenging, but deeply rewarding. I’m enjoying this new version of my life. I don’t need to party in my house anymore. I love to get in the bath, light some candles, bring in my laptop, and put on something on Netflix. That’s as exciting as it gets.”

Speaking to ELLE Decoration, Isla reflected on the emotional moment her furniture arrived:

“I did have a bit of a cry because this was my first time as a single woman, being in a home of my own.”

She also revealed how she has thoughtfully arranged her new space, ensuring her children’s bedrooms are on the same floor as hers so she can keep an eye on their smartphone use.

Isla Fisher shares three children — two daughters and a son — with her ex, Sacha Baron Cohen.

“I wanted the kids’ bedrooms on my floor so I can monitor smartphone use. There also needed to be space for my family who live in Greece and visit often, and outdoor space. With the Australian upbringing I was lucky enough to have, I’ve always been barefoot in the garden or on the beach, so this is as close as I can get to feeling like I’m home,” she explained.

The actress, who announced her split from the Borat star in April last year, previously revealed that she had been piecing her life back together with the help of the Carl Jung method. This therapeutic approach explores unconscious forces, dreams, symbols, and archetypes, aiming for self-understanding, integration, and fulfilment.

“This is totally personal and I say this with the caveat that it worked for me, but the concept of processing stuff and taking your time, thinking about it again and again — you don’t really feel better that way,” she told The Australian.

Instead, Isla chose to keep moving, saying “yes” to opportunities and throwing herself into work. Since the split, she has remained busy on film sets, stayed active in her community, and embraced creative reinvention, describing the period as a parental “power pause” that allowed her to rebuild her life on her own terms.

“It’s amazing to me that at this point in my life I’ve got this opportunity, in a positive way, to reinvent what the last act of my life is now from the ground up,” Isla Fisher said, expressing her joy at returning to work.

The actress explained that she never fell out of love with acting during her hiatus; she was simply more in love with motherhood — a passion she continues to cherish. Now, with the flexibility co-parenting provides, she can embrace both roles.

“For most parents, we focus on our kids and it’s so divine, magical, and absorbing, but now I have some time when the kids aren’t with me, so I get a chance to think about what the future might hold for me,” she shared.

Isla and Sacha Baron Cohen announced the end of their marriage in 2023 with a playful Instagram post showing them in tennis outfits.

“After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” the caption read.
“In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritised our privacy and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”
