Coronation Street’s Shona Faces Heart-Wrenching Choice Following Devastating Scan Reveal

Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) has taken a major step in Coronation Street after receiving troubling news about her pregnancy.

Earlier this week, she and David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) went for an ultrasound, where concerns about their baby first came to light.

Ahead of a follow-up appointment, both were visibly anxious about what the results could mean for their future. The storyline gave viewers a glimpse into their private thoughts, showing that while they wanted to support each other, they were struggling to communicate and cope with the fear and uncertainty in their own ways.

At the appointment, the doctor revealed that a mass had been detected on the baby’s neck.

She warned that in some cases, such a growth can block the baby’s airway, and if it affects the oesophagus, it could cause a buildup of amniotic fluid, potentially triggering premature labor.

Since Shona was under 24 weeks pregnant, the doctor told her she had the option of terminating the pregnancy.

Alternatively, she could undergo a complex exit surgery, which would involve operating on the baby while she remained connected to the placenta—a procedure carrying significant risks for both mother and child.

During the discussion, the doctor mentioned that Shona and David were expecting a baby girl, which delighted Shona.

It soon became apparent that Shona and David had differing views on how to proceed.

Fearing he might lose both Shona and the baby during the risky procedure, David said he believed an abortion might be the safer option.

Shona, however, was determined to go ahead with the surgery, emphasizing that there was still a chance their daughter could grow up healthy.

Despite David’s lingering doubts, Shona made it clear that her decision was final—after all, it was her body.

The question now is whether David will respect her choice or try to persuade her to change her mind.
