After years of speculation and countless fan theories, Line of Duty — one of the BBC’s most intense and gripping crime dramas is finally making its return, and this time every original AC-12 star will be back.

The long-awaited seventh season of Line of Duty is reportedly in the works, with the BBC expected to confirm details very soon. The iconic trio Martin Compston (Steve Arnott), Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings), and Vicky McClure (Kate Fleming) are all said to be returning, reuniting for what promises to be the most explosive season yet.
The revival comes four years after the divisive Season 6 finale, which left millions of fans debating the true identity of “H.” Since then, rumours of a new chapter have persisted and now it appears the show is finally moving forward.
🎬 In July, Dunbar told The Times:
“We’re really excited about getting our hands on a Line of Duty script again, to see what happens to us. Jed [Mercurio] is writing, and we’ve talked to the BBC. It’s down to them to make an announcement, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

He later shared his excitement on BBC Radio Ulster, teasing:
“I know Jed’s working away. Me, Vicky, and Martin all want to do it. Hopefully next year we’ll be back in Belfast, causing trouble again.”
Meanwhile, Martin Compston dropped a major hint about the return during an interview on Nicky Byrne HQ:
“I think I already know what I’ll be filming next year… and I’m pretty sure people can guess what that is.”
The buzz began earlier this year when co-star Christina Chong (DI Nicola Rogerson) revealed she had been approached about reprising her role.

Industry sources say creator Jed Mercurio has been quietly developing a storyline designed to “shock everyone” and “tie up unfinished business” from the previous season. With BBC executives reportedly thrilled by the script, the network is expected to make an official announcement soon, likely alongside a teaser trailer and premiere schedule.
Since its debut, Line of Duty has become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for its gripping tension, intricate plotting, and iconic lines such as “the letter of the law!” and “I’m interested in one thing and one thing only… bent coppers!”
Fans are already buzzing on social media, with one posting:
“If Line of Duty really comes back with all three leads this will be the TV comeback of the decade!”
With all signs pointing to a 2026 release, one thing is certain: AC-12 isn’t finished yet, and the hunt for justice is about to resume.
