Pete Wicks Admits He ‘Prefers Dogs to People’ and Breaks Down Filming Emotional Rescue Dog Documentary

Pete Wicks has admitted that he “prefers dogs to people” ahead of the release of his new documentary, Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake.

The former TOWIE and Strictly star, 36, revealed that he couldn’t stop crying while filming the emotional programme about rescue dogs.

Pete, who owns two rescued French bulldogs, Eric and Peggy the latter of whom has one eye often shares his love for them on social media.

Speaking to The Radio Times about the documentary, he said, “It might sound harsh, but it’s true I prefer dogs to people. You don’t realise how much dogs can change your life until you have one.”

“Filming the series was an honour, but also incredibly emotional. I don’t mind admitting that I cried several times. It’s heartbreaking to see a dog arrive after a difficult start in life you can see the sadness in their eyes.

“This is a series I have wanted to make for a decade. Why? Because it is estimated that there are around 100,000 dogs in UK rescue centres, yet only one in five people who get a dog choose a rescue.”

Ahead of his new show Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake, Pete Wicks says he prefers dogs over people.

Pete Wicks owns two rescued French bulldogs, Eric and Peggy, the latter of whom has one eye, and he often shares his love for them on social media.

His journey with rescue dogs began when he and his mother adopted a dog named Arnie when he was just ten years old. Later, in 2016, he rescued Eric from the Dogs Trust centre in Basildon, Essex, close to where he grew up.

His new four-part documentary, Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake, is set to air on January 7.

Recently, while competing on Strictly Come Dancing with partner Jowita Przystał, Pete’s mother looked after his two dogs, spoiling them rotten as he trained and performed on the show.

It comes amid speculation about his love life, after Pete and his new partner, Maura Higgins, shared posts suggesting they spent Christmas together. The couple appeared cheerful as they loaded luggage into a car, preparing for a festive getaway.

Maura later shared a series of photos on her Instagram stories, including a view from the plane window, and revealed she had checked into the luxurious Glasson Lakehouse, Spa & Golf Club. Fans have since wondered whether the reality star introduced Pete to her family during the holiday break, while the pair enjoyed a romantic escape together.

The pub featured a large wooden fireplace decorated with Christmas stockings, a pine garland, and twinkling fairy lights, adding to the festive atmosphere.
