Celebrity Big Brother stars Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa had always maintained they shared a “platonic connection” before officially confirming their romance.
The 32-year-old Love Island alum recently revealed in a candid podcast the exact moment their friendship turned romantic.
Chris and 22-year-old JoJo became very close during their 19-day stint in ITV’s Spy House in April, with memorable moments on the show including a forehead kiss and a peck on the shoulder.
Fans were often puzzled by Chris’ seemingly “flirty” behaviour, especially as JoJo was dating Kath Ebbs at the time. The pair were also seen secretly holding hands in the bedroom.
After JoJo split from Kath, the duo left fans convinced they were exchanging secret “love” signals in a TikTok video.
JoJo clarified her relationship with Chris during an April interview on ITV’s This Morning, describing them as having a “soulmate friendship.”
However, Chris revealed that just weeks later, during a trip to Mexico in May, they officially became a couple.
Speaking on the Question The Default podcast with Harry Corin, he said their connection “wasn’t rushed or forced, it just happened.” He explained that he flew to Mexico to surprise JoJo at a festival where she was performing, with her family present, and that’s when they became an official couple. Chris described the moment as “rekindling and meeting up in Mexico,” adding, “I flew out to surprise her, which was nice.”
Chris explained, “I spent a few days with her and her family in Orlando before flying home, and that’s where it all started.”
He added, “I went to Mexico and met up with her, and that’s when the feelings developed and things changed. It was lovely, and there was no secrecy about it. Nothing was rushed or forced—it just happened.”
Chris also mentioned that they are currently managing a long-distance relationship but plan to find a solution in the future.
Holiday Romance
Earlier this year in Mexico, fans were convinced Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa had confirmed their romance after a scene on Chris’ Snapchat showed him captioning a photo with “Take me back.” Intimate snaps from their time together—including one of Chris’s hand on JoJo’s thigh—led fans to believe they were officially a couple. JoJo described the photos as “loving” and said she would remember the moments “for the rest of her life.”
Marriage Chat
This week, the couple appeared more loved-up than ever at a US event, having previously opened up about marriage plans. Last month, JoJo hinted at planning her wedding after liking a post from wedding planner PoshVows about bridal beauty timelines.
In an earlier interview, JoJo shared details about her dream wedding, saying, “A wedding is a two-person thing, so we would have to decide what it looks like. But I do know I want a baby-blue scheme, and I need to help Chris make the playlist. Otherwise, it’ll be all songs I don’t know! He loves The 1975 and boy bands, but I don’t know any of them as they’re British.”
