Things have taken a turn for the worse for Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden after Aaron discovered Robert’s secret prison husband, Kev Townsend. A heated argument nearly turned physical, with Aaron angrily declaring that he “hates” his ex.
Is there any hope left for reconciliation between this iconic couple?
The episode began with Robert by Kev’s hospital bedside following his heart attack, where Kev revealed he expects to be discharged the next day. Robert later confronted a tense Aaron to explain that Kev had saved him from brutal prison attacks, only to be stabbed in retaliation.
“At the time, I didn’t think either of us would make it out. I certainly didn’t imagine I’d see you again,” Robert told Aaron. “So when Kev asked if I’d marry him if he survived, I said yes. I love him, but I’m not in love with him. I love you. And I know you love me too.”
However, with Robert insisting he needed “more time” before leaving Kev, Aaron reached his breaking point.
“I honestly don’t want to see you ever again,” he said, retreating to The Woolpack to drown his sorrows in drink.
When Robert found him increasingly drunk and irritable with those around him, tensions escalated further.
“Do you realize how hard it’s been trying to protect everyone from getting hurt?” Robert demanded. “I’ve got Vic, I’ve got Kev, I’ve got you. I’m looking out for everyone except myself.”
Aaron shot back, “Poor little Robert. Why don’t you just go back to your strange little marriage? I’m sure Kev will be waiting with open arms… and a fat paycheck.”
Referencing how Robert and Kev first got together, Aaron added, “You’re so weak and pathetic that you had to marry the resident psycho just for a bit of protection.”
Overhearing the argument, Victoria and Paddy watched as Robert fired back, reminding Aaron of his own recent troubles with his villainous ex, John, hinting that Aaron wasn’t entirely innocent.
“Oh, sorry, I forgot — you didn’t know,” Robert said sarcastically, prompting Aaron to lunge at him. “I’m just saying what everyone else is thinking,” he added.
Aaron growled, “I never thought I could hate anyone as much as I hate you right now. From now on, you stay out of my life for good. Do you understand?”
With Robert left shaken, fans are left wondering: is reconciliation possible? And what will happen when Kev is discharged from the hospital?
