Former Coronation Street star announces she’s expecting her first baby, three years after leaving the soap

The star swapped the cobbles for a very normal job after leaving the ITV soap.

Former Coronation Street actress Kate Spencer has announced that she’s expecting her first child, three years after leaving the ITV soap.

Kate, who played Grace Vickers, the former love interest of Michael Bailey (played by Ryan Russell), first appeared on the show in 2019 before exiting in early 2022.

Sharing the happy news on Instagram, Kate posted a photo holding an ultrasound scan while her husband Paul kissed her cheek.

She captioned the image:

“19 weeks of loving you, forever to go! Hugely grateful, blessed and unbelievably excited to be welcoming the next generation of the Walkers into our family in March 2026.”

Fans quickly flooded the comments with congratulations and warm wishes, celebrating the couple’s joyful announcement.

When Grace Vickers first appeared on Coronation Street, she deceived Michael Bailey by pretending that a friend’s baby was their own child. The scheme was meant to get back at Michael for his past mistakes, but Grace’s lie was eventually exposed. Later, in 2021, she genuinely became a mother when she gave birth to their real daughter, Glory.

After actress Kate Spencer left the soap, she returned to a more ordinary life. She took a job at Derby Theatre, initially working at the box office, before unexpectedly stepping in to perform on stage in a last-minute role for the stage adaptation of Alex Wheatle’s “Home Girl.”

Kate described the experience as a whirlwind, saying she went “from working on the box office to rehearsing on stage an hour later.”

Despite the chaos, she said the opportunity was “a joy,” adding humorously that she “may have sweated through her leggings,” but the smile on her face said it all. She completed 55 hours, performed three shows, and proudly called it her “last-minute Covid cover – completed it, mate.”

This wasn’t the first time Kate Spencer explored work outside of acting during the Covid pandemic, she also took on a part-time job as an estate agent. She explained that she turned to property work to bring some stability and routine into her life while her Coronation Street role had slowed down.
