Coronation Street actress announces her departure, explaining her reasons for leaving the soap after three years

The star has already filmed her final scenes.

Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown has confirmed she is leaving the soap and explained her reasons for stepping away.

The actress, who plays Dee Dee Bailey, has been a central figure in the show in recent years, appearing in numerous major storylines. She said this was partly why she decided to move on.

“I made the decision in the spring, and it wasn’t a rash choice,” she explained. “I even took a couple of months after being offered my next-year contract before responding. I felt really torn, but ultimately it just felt like the right time. I’ve been so privileged to tell some incredible stories, and it’s been a wonderful experience.”

Channique Sterling-Brown explained that her faith played a big part in her decision to leave Coronation Street. “I really took my time over it and prayed about it,” she said. “I felt a real sense that I had done what I’d come here to do. I didn’t always know exactly what that was, but it felt like the right time to be brave.”

Getting emotional, she added: “It’s been brilliant. I couldn’t have written it better. I’ve learned so much, made amazing friends, and I’ve loved playing this character.”

Channique confirmed she has already filmed her final scenes, describing the day as emotional yet special. “Being in the building for the last time, walking through every corridor, being in The Rovers it felt very nostalgic. It’s the price of love, I guess, because I love being here. But it also felt like the right moment to move on.”
