Coronation Street has confirmed that Debbie Webster will take centre stage in the show’s upcoming wedding storyline. The fan-favourite is set to marry her partner Ronnie Bailey following his high-profile proposal over the summer.
Showrunner Kate Brooks revealed the plans at a Corrie press event and reassured fans that there are currently no plans to write Debbie out of the series.
Debbie was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year, prompting some fans to worry that the beloved character might be written out. However, Coronation Street has confirmed that Debbie’s story will continue into 2027.
Speaking about the character’s future, showrunner Kate Brooks said, “Debbie’s got ages and ages! We’re not rushing through her story at all. We love Debbie she’s brilliant, funny, and full of life and joy. There are plenty of storylines involving Debbie that aren’t centered on her dementia. She remains at the heart of real family dramas.”

“For Debbie, she’s enjoying life and making the most of it. She’s planning a big wedding with Ronnie, set to take place towards the end of the year. It’s going to be a beautiful, joyful celebration—very much in Debbie’s style, showcasing her lovable and slightly eccentric personality.
“We’ll also see the debut of the dementia choir that Debbie has been so passionate about. She’s focusing on that because she wants to make the most of her time.
“Debbie wants to fully enjoy her love for Ronnie and is eager for her family to find balance again, hoping her brothers Carl and Kevin can be reunited.”

“She’s managing all of this while still running a successful business. This storyline is just beginning. Yes, there will be moments when she forgets things, but she’s living with it. Debbie isn’t defined by her dementia, and neither are her stories for a long time. We’re simply enjoying Debbie being Debbie.”
Brooks also revealed plans to expand Debbie’s circle of friends, introducing characters like Sally Metcalfe and Glenda Shuttleworth.
She added, “It’s really important to Coronation Street that Debbie has a strong group of female friends. We want to develop and invest in those friendships. Glenda, Sally, Bernie, Christina, Debbie—this gang of women navigating life together brings humour and loyalty. Watching these friendships grow, there’s a lot of fun coming up.”

“It’s classic Corrie. In the episodes I’m watching right now, it’s them on nights out, getting up to mischief just really down-to-earth humour with these women. Debbie’s dementia is present, but she’s not defined by it. We’re nowhere near the end of her story. It’s powerful, brilliant, and layered, but Debbie will be Debbie for a long time. So enjoy all the Debbie-isms while you can.”
For the scenes where Debbie joins a singing group, Corrie has collaborated with a real-life dementia choir. Brooks explained, “It’s a real dementia choir, and it’s important to show that there’s life, joy, and humour. We also work closely with charities. Many people we’ve spoken to want to convey the message: ‘Don’t be too scared about this.’ Dementia is tragic and heartbreaking, but there are still so many moments and so much life to live.”
She added, “Just because Debbie has received this diagnosis doesn’t mean she suddenly becomes a completely different person. Debbie will remain Debbie for a long time.”
