Strictly’s Pete Wicks Opens Up About His ‘Toughest Challenge’ While Planning a Break from TV

Pete Wicks, best known for his performances on Strictly Come Dancing after rising to fame on The Only Way Is Essex, shared the revelation while opening up about his love of dogs.

Pete Wicks has revealed that his ultimate “goal in life” is to “disappear into nothingness.” He shared this during an interview promoting the second season of his U&W series Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake, in which he teams up with the Dogs Trust charity to highlight their work caring for rescue dogs.

Throughout filming, Pete met countless lovable dogs, each one stealing his heart. When asked how he manages to resist taking them all home, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant admitted, “It’s the hardest thing, and my goal in life is to buy some land and just disappear into nothingness surrounded by dogs. I prefer dogs to people!”

He added, “But I already have my two rescue French bulldogs, Eric and Peggy, who’ve both had traumatic experiences and are getting older, so it wouldn’t be right to bring in another dog, as much as I want to.”

Pete also noted that some members of the show’s crew are adopting dogs again during this series.

Filmed at the Dogs Trust rehoming centre in Basildon, the show is set to return for two more series and a Christmas special after the success of its first run earlier this year.

In May, Pete Wicks updated fans, saying he was in the “thick of it filming,” adding that he “couldn’t be happier” and describing the experience as “full of tears and laughter.”

By October, he excitedly announced, “We are BACK!” and gave fans a “one week warning” ahead of the show’s return on Monday, October 13.

He added, “On a personal note, I am so proud and so excited for you all to see what I have been doing for the past six months working with @dogstrust and all the amazing staff there. This show is more than work, it’s my passion, so your support would mean everything! Go follow @petewicksfordogssake and tell me what you think!”

Pete’s former Strictly dance partner, Jowita Przystal, also voiced her support for his show—she has reportedly been involved with the charity as well—encouraging fans to follow him and expressing excitement for the new series.

This comes after Pete revealed details about his on-stage kiss with Jowita at London’s O2 Arena during a live recording of his and close friend Sam Thompson’s Staying Relevant podcast.

Responding to a fan who described the kiss as “aggressive,” Sam clarified, “It wasn’t an aggressive kiss. It was more like… choreography. By the way, it was choreography—that kiss. I think we should make that clear.”

Pete agreed, adding, “Yeah, it was part of the choreography.”
