Jimmy Kimmel Confirms to Seth Rogen That He Is Officially Barred from Presenting at the Emmys

Kimmel confirmed that Rogen’s off-script behavior as an Emmys presenter was indeed the reason he wasn’t invited to return.

The truth behind Seth Rogen’s theory that he’s been banned from presenting at the Emmys finally came to light.

Rogen appeared as the first guest on the October 6 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where Kimmel brought up Rogen’s supposed ban. Kimmel began, “I heard that you have a theory that you are banned from presenting at the Emmys,” but Rogen jumped in before he could finish, saying, “I do have that theory! Yeah, I presented there—I think it was four years ago—and I have not been invited back.”

The audience laughed as Kimmel replied, “Let me just remind you why you weren’t invited back… was it right at the tail end of COVID?”

Rogen confirmed, “It was, yeah, I would say it was in the thick of COVID from my recollection,” before Kimmel read a quote from Rogen’s presentation: “‘Let me start by saying there’s way too many of us in this little room. What are we doing?’”

As Rogen laughed, covering his face and turning red, he recounted, “They said this was outdoors. It’s not. They lied to us. We’re in a hermetically sealed tent right now. I wouldn’t have come if I knew. Why is there a roof?”

Gesturing with his hands, Rogen added, “It’s true! They lied! It said outdoor event, and I went intending to do the dumb bit they wrote for me. Then I showed up and thought, ‘We’re in a tent. I can’t ignore this. We’re going to kill these old… Eugene Levy is here!’”

He admitted, “The producers were outwardly pissed at me afterward… and I know they cycle through producers, so my theory is I haven’t been asked back…”

Before he could finish, Kimmel interrupted: “Can I tell you something? I checked today because I’ve hosted the Emmys a few times, and you are, indeed, banned from presenting.”

“I’ve been blacklisted!” Rogen exclaimed as Kimmel confirmed it.

Seth Rogen’s Emmys Ban Won’t Stop Him From Winning

Although Rogen may not be presenting at the Primetime Emmys anytime soon, that hasn’t stopped him from winning. With those wins come acceptance speeches, so fans will have to wait and see what he says on stage in the future—especially as he confirmed that Season 2 of The Studio is set to start filming soon.

Just last month, Rogen earned four Emmys for the AppleTV+ series The Studio, taking home awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.

During his speech for Outstanding Lead Actor, he shared a story from his childhood about buying a used bowling trophy because he never expected to win anything.
