Sunrise host Sam Mac revealed on Friday that he’s relocating to Melbourne, surprising viewers. He currently lives in Sydney with his partner Rebecca James and their two daughters, Margot and Mabel.
Mac told viewers, “I have some big news to share. Bec, the girls, and I are moving to Melbourne. Bec is from there, and with all my travel, she’ll have the support of grandparents and friends nearby.
“I’ve loved Sydney it’s been incredible. I’m an Adelaide boy, but being in Melbourne means being closer to footy and family. I wanted to share it with the Sunrise family. I’ll still continue on Sunrise and keep traveling around the country.”

Mac explained he was glad his daughters will experience more nature.
Mac continued: “I’ve been thinking about it for a while.
“We will be out near the Yarra Valley, the girls will be playing with lizards and kangaroos.”
On Instagram, Mac also made an adorable announcement, in a series of family photos.
“Our little family is moving from Sydney to Melbourne. Here’s why … The love story began on a screen in covid times. I lived in Sydney and Bec in Melb.
“After six months of getting to know each other online, this photo was taken on our first date. The chemistry was electric.
“After countless lockdowns and border closures.

Mac reflected on their life in Sydney over the past four years: “Somehow, I convinced Bec to move here. We bought and renovated a house, launched a business, got engaged, devoured way too many cheesymite scrolls, and welcomed two beautiful girls.
“Seeing them play in their grandparents’ backyard near the Yarra Valley was a lightbulb moment. The lizards, kookaburras, and kangaroos filled their faces with such joy.
We knew that was the childhood we wanted for them. Now the grandparents are just nine minutes away instead of nine hours. Time to repay my darling Rebecca for taking a leap of faith for the weird cat-loving weatherman in that tiny, smelly Bachelor pad. See you soon, Melbourne.”
Mac also shared about their engagement on December 31, 2023: “She’s calm, strong, and unintentionally funny. Super smart and genuinely beautiful. She makes me a better man.”
