Grace Van Patten Admits She “Didn’t Like” Costar Jackson White at First but They Fell in Love Later

Actress Grace Van Patten is opening up about an unexpected love story that began with a rocky first impression.

On the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Tell Me Lies star revealed that her initial chemistry read with actor Jackson White who would later become both her on-screen and real-life partner was far from romantic.

“I had done a bunch of Zoom chemistry reads … I was like, ‘Ugh, God,’” she admitted with a laugh, recalling that White’s early demeanor didn’t win her over.

But when the pair finally met in person, everything changed. “He showed up with this completely different energy,” Van Patten explained, noting that their connection quickly deepened. Before long, the two had sparked a real relationship even as they prepared to portray one of television’s most complicated couples.

Ironically, while Tell Me Lies explores the messy realities of toxic love, Van Patten says her romance with White is the opposite. “It’s grounded and easy,” she told InStyle, emphasizing the contrast between her character’s stormy storyline and her real-world happiness.

Fans of the Hulu series will have more to look forward to. Tell Me Lies has been renewed for a third season, expected to premiere in late 2025 or early 2026.

For now, Van Patten is enjoying her balance of independence and romance. She recently revealed that she lives alone in Los Angeles, even though her relationship with White remains strong.

“It works for us,” she said, adding that the arrangement helps her stay centered while navigating the demands of Hollywood.

As she continues to build her career, Grace Van Patten’s off-screen love story serves as a reminder that sometimes, first impressions really can be deceiving.
