Sydney Sweeney reunites with Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell at space-themed birthday bash

The actress celebrated her 28th birthday with the stars (pun intended).

Sydney Sweeney’s birthday celebration wasn’t just any party — Glen Powell made the guest list.

The Anyone But You co-stars reunited as Sweeney marked her 28th birthday with a space-themed bash. Photos show her in a sparkling silver mini dress, surrounded by friends and family dressed in cosmic-inspired outfits.

On Instagram, Sweeney captioned a carousel of photos, “Welcome to planet syd.” In one shot, she poses with Powell, who is dressed as a NASA astronaut holding his helmet, as they smile and embrace for the cameras.

Powell and Sweeney first connected while starring in Anyone But You, a modern take on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing about two exes navigating an enemies-to-lovers storyline after staging a fake dating scheme to fool their friends and family. Released in December 2023, the film dominated the box office for weeks, earning $220 million globally.

Even before the movie’s success, fans were curious about Powell and Sweeney’s off-screen relationship. Photos of the pair looking close during filming in Australia made headlines, though both were in separate relationships at the time, which have since ended.

In 2023, Sweeney admitted the rumors were “really really hard on Glen, which made me sad,” but added that working together was otherwise “such a beautiful experience for the both of us.”

A year later, Powell addressed the speculation, admitting that they sometimes leaned into the rumors to help promote the film. “The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,” he told The New York Times. “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”

Even as both stars downplayed the romance rumors, Sweeney’s breakup with her ex, Jonathan Davino, and comments from Powell’s ex, Gigi Paris, intensified speculation. In a June appearance on Emma Klipstein’s Too Much podcast, Paris revealed that rumors about an affair between Powell and Sweeney contributed to their split.

Gigi Paris expressed frustration over how her breakup with Glen Powell was handled, saying, “I just wanted respect, especially if it’s gonna be public. Like, don’t make an ass out of me…Just have some decency, you know? And at the end of the day, it was like, well, work comes first. And if that’s the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away. What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs.”

Despite the past drama, Sweeney and Powell appear to have remained close friends, often speaking highly of each other. In December, while honoring Powell as one of Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainers of the Year, Sweeney praised him: “Glen approaches his craft with such care and precision that it elevates everyone around him. On set, he’s not just a scene partner — he’s a real partner. He looks you in the eyes, and in that moment, you know you can do anything together. We trusted each other implicitly, and that bond translated into every frame of the film.”

She added that she often tested that trust with literal trust falls: “I’d randomly throw trust falls at him just to see if he had my back. He never let me down. That’s who Glen is, both on camera and off.”
