The “Grey’s Anatomy” alum is the proud owner of several pets, including a canine named after the “Taken” actor.
On Thursday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Barrymore surprised Katherine Heigl with a truly quirky gift.
The Fever Pitch star gave the Grey’s Anatomy alum a dog bowl featuring Liam Neeson’s face inside.
The reason? Heigl had named one of her dogs after the Taken actor.
Earlier in the segment, Heigl shared that she had adopted three puppies around St. Patrick’s Day. “So one of them we named Liam Neeson,” she said, “because, you know, he’s Irish!”
Heigl joked that she would have named another dog after Pamela Anderson if she’d known about the rumored romance between the Naked Gun co-stars when she first got her puppies.
Neeson isn’t the first celebrity Heigl and her husband, Josh Kelley, have honored with a pet name. “I have Elora Danan that was Josh’s choice from the movie Willow,” she said. “Then there’s Clara Rose, and I have a Birdee Calvert, after Sandra Bullock’s character in Hope Floats. I love that movie so much.”
Barrymore, who owns several pets including her dog Douglas and bearded dragon Jeremy, was thrilled by the idea of celebrity-inspired pet names.
“I love this so much that we actually made you a custom bowl for Mr. Liam Neeson,” she said, revealing a yellow dish with Neeson’s face on the bottom. “And, by the way, when he gets down to the bottom, he can lick his face!”
Heigl was clearly thrilled by the gift. “This is so amazing!” she exclaimed. “I’m not giving that to the dogs—I’m keeping that!”
Barrymore later recounted meeting Liam Neeson alongside Heigl, Valerie Bertinelli, and Ross Mathews during her show’s recurring Memory Bank segment.
“I just have to say that he is the nicest, most incredible human being,” Barrymore gushed. “I don’t think there’s anyone who deserves happiness more. He’s gracious, cool, and awesome, and I was so lucky to know him back in the day.”
She added, “Liam Neeson, if you’re out there anywhere, I just hope you’re as happy as you deserve to be because you are a phenomenal human being.”
Picking up the dog bowl, Barrymore continued, “And! We love you! We love you so much, and we love to honor you in every way.”
