Destiny’s Child Reunion Was a “Spur of the Moment,” Says Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams is opening up about Destiny’s Child’s recent surprise reunion.

On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Sept. 10, Williams, 46, reflected on the trio’s impromptu performance at Beyoncé’s final Renaissance World Tour show on July 26. She described the moment as an “awesome, spur of the moment” decision.

Williams noted that their previous reunion at Coachella in 2018, for Beyoncé’s headlining set, was easier to prepare for. “This one was, ‘Y’all let’s do this,’ and we did,” she said, highlighting the spontaneity of the performance.

When asked whether Destiny’s Child might record together again, Michelle Williams, currently starring on Broadway in Death Becomes Her, offered a careful response.

“Anything is possible,” she said. “Performing on stage is like that for me… I only like it with Beyoncé and Kelly. But as far as Broadway, I’m a Broadway girl… Music? I only want to do it with them.”

In the same episode, Williams shared her favorite Destiny’s Child song, choosing “Say My Name” as her top pick. She also mentioned the title track from Survivor, noting, “The musicality is still relevant… and it was the first I was ever on commercially.”

At their July 26 show in Las Vegas, the trio performed a medley of hits including “Independent Woman,” “Lose My Breath,” “Energy,” and “Bootylicious.” They also reunited offstage with former members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett during Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour in 2023.

Destiny’s Child, formed in Houston in the early 1990s, released their self-titled debut album in 1998 and their third and final album, Destiny’s Fulfilled, in 2004.

Rowland and Williams’ onstage reunion with Beyoncé in Las Vegas followed appearances at several other shows during the Cowboy Carter Tour. In early July, Williams attended Beyoncé’s concert in Washington, D.C., while in June, Rowland was spotted at the singer’s show in Paris.
