The pedestrian walkway has become worn down after over two decades of use.
Swansea’s iconic Sail Bridge will be closing for two weeks to carry out renovations. It opened back in 2003 and has seen significant footfall ever since.

The bridge at Swansea Marina joins the two banks of the River Tawe and is next to Kings Road on one side, going towards East Burrows Road on the other side. It serves as a way for pedestrians to cross the river without going on the A4067 Quay Parade or other routes.
The bridge doesn’t just form a path for hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists everyday, but it is also used as a route for major sporting events in the city.

However, the non-slip surface covering the pedestrian walk way on the bridge has been in place for nearly 21 years and six months, and has become worn down.
Therefore, Swansea Council is putting in a £40,000 investment to replace the ageing walkway.
To ensure the work can be carried out, the bridge will be closed to the public for the next two weeks.
While the works are carried out, residents will have to use alternative walking routes like the Tawe Bridge and the Trafalgar Bridge further along the river.
The repairs being done on the Sail Bridge form a part of the council’s multi-million pound investment into the city’s highways infrastructure.
The plan was approved earlier this year and will also include planned resurfacing of main roads across the city during 2025/26.

Andrew Stevens, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “The Sail Bridge is one of our most popular landmarks and is used regularly by the public.
“Since it’s official opening in 2003, it’s very likely seen millions of people cross over it.
“The original surface is understandably suffering from wear and tear and we want to make sure it can be used and enjoyed for many years to come.
“The planned upgrade will enable us to replace the non-slip surface and get it back open as soon as possible.
