At the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, Angelina Jolie took a moment to show her appreciation for members of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress was seen chatting with several firefighters during a break in the star-studded event, hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler.
Angelina smiled warmly as she got up from her seat to speak with them, just weeks after the devastating wildfires ravaged Los Angeles.
These fires, fueled by historic winds, burned over 40,000 acres, destroyed 12,000 structures, and tragically claimed 29 lives. After a month-long battle, Cal Fire confirmed the fires were finally contained.
Jolie, who resides in a $25 million mansion in Los Feliz with her six children, appeared to express her gratitude to the firefighters during their mid-show conversation.

Angelina was a big nominee that night for her portrayal of late opera singer Maria Callas in the 2024 biopic Maria.
She was nominated for Best Actress for her critically acclaimed performance, which included learning to sing opera for the role. However, despite her dedication, she lost the trophy to The Substance‘s Demi Moore.
Moore also beat out other nominees, including Cynthia Erivo from Wicked, Mickey Madison from Anora, Karla Sofía Gascón from Emilia Perez, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste from Hard Truths.
The Critics Choice Awards stirred up and solidified the awards season race leading up to the Academy Awards.
Anora emerged as the upset winner of Best Picture, despite not winning any of its other six nominations. Meanwhile, Moore and Adrien Brody triumphed in the lead acting categories.
Anora, directed by Sean Baker, is a verité-style comedy starring Mikey Madison as an adult dancer who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch, only to have his handlers go to shocking lengths to annul the marriage. In his emotional acceptance speech, Baker highlighted that the film was made for just $6 million—a surprisingly small budget for a major film.

Despite dedicating herself to the role by learning how to sing opera, Angelina Jolie lost the Best Actress trophy to Demi Moore for The Substance. After Moore’s win, Jolie was seen hugging her.
However, the Critics Choice Award ballots were cast before the controversy surrounding The Substance came to light, while voting for the Oscars was still ongoing.
The Substance also won Best Foreign Language Film and Best Song. Notably, Karla Sofía Gascón was credited for the Best Song win but did not attend the ceremony after Netflix stopped covering her travel and accommodations due to her controversial tweets and apologies that failed to improve the film’s outlook.
In other categories, Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor, and Jon M. Chu won Best Director for Wicked, making him a frontrunner for the Oscars despite mixed reviews. The film Conclave kept its Oscar hopes alive by winning the acting ensemble award, with Ralph Fiennes accepting, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
On the TV side, Shōgun triumphed in drama categories, winning Best Drama Series, Best Actor (Hiroyuki Sanada), and both supporting categories (Tadanobu Asano and Moeka Hoshi).
