Friends star David Schwimmer calls on Elon Musk to remove Kanye West from X over “hate-filled, ignorant” comments

Many of the rapper’s posts on X on Friday focused on the Jewish community, with the most extreme statements including “I love Hitler” and “I’m a Nazi.”

Friends star David Schwimmer has urged X owner Elon Musk to remove Kanye West from the platform after the rapper, also known as Ye, posted a series of offensive comments, including those targeting Jewish people.

Many of West’s posts on Friday were focused on the Jewish community, with the most severe ones saying, “I love Hitler” and “I’m a Nazi.” Another post read, “I’m never apologising for my Jewish comments.”

On Saturday, Schwimmer, who is Jewish, called on Musk to take action against West for spreading “hate-filled, ignorant bile.” The US actor posted on Instagram: “This is so 2022. We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk.”

David Schwimmer criticized Kanye West’s influence on X, stating: “Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people as the number of Jews in existence.” He continued, “His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews.” Schwimmer also expressed his concerns about West identifying as a Nazi, saying it implied a desire to exterminate all marginalized communities, including his own. He questioned, “What’s worse? The fact that he identifies as a Nazi, or the lack of sufficient outrage to remove him from social media?”

He added, “Silence is complicity.” Despite this, West continued to post more offensive comments about Jewish people.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism has also urged Elon Musk to remove Kanye West from X.

A week ago, West and his wife Bianca Censori sparked controversy at the Grammy Awards when she wore a seemingly transparent dress on the red carpet while he stood beside her.

West has faced suspensions from his X account multiple times. In December 2022, his account was suspended after he made antisemitic remarks and praised Hitler, including posting an image with a swastika inside a Star of David. Musk stated that the suspension was due to “incitement to violence.” The account was later reinstated in July 2023.

In October 2022, West’s account was restricted for antisemitic comments, but he returned to the platform the following month. His antisemitic remarks also led to Adidas severing ties with him.
